Donetsk could become large air hub in Europe, says expert
The infrastructure of Donetsk International Airport could allow it to become a large transportation hub in the global aviation network in the medium term, Airport Commercial Director Oleksiy Dubrevsky has said.
"Today we have everything we need to create a large transport hub in Donetsk. We have a favorable geographical location, we are the easternmost international airport in Ukraine and indeed have the potential to become a bridge in air connections between the largest countries of the world," he said at a press conference dedicated to the work of the Routes CIS 2013 international air forum held in Donetsk.
According to him, today the airport has a modern runway, which allows all types of aircraft to land and take off.
"At the same time, the coverage of passengers by our airport is about 6.5 million inhabitants. We're talking about people living not only in Donetsk region, but neighboring Luhansk and Zaporizhia regions," said Dubrevsky.
