Yanukovych: Ukraine to use Euro 2012 experience and worthily prepare for EuroBasket 2015

Preparations for the finals of the EuroBasket 2015 European Basketball Championship are already underway in all six Ukrainian cities that will host the event, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said.

"The preparations are already underway in all six regions in Ukraine," he said at a meeting with FIBA Europe President Olafur Rafnsson on Friday.

Yanukovych said that on Friday, Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov laid a capsule at the site in Kyiv, where a multipurpose sports complex for EuroBasket 2015 will be built.

"We have a lot of experience in preparing for a tournament of this level, and I'm confident that we will use the experience of Euro 2012 and prepare for EuroBasket properly," Yanukovych said.

He also noted that the possibility of holding EuroBasket 2015 is a great success for Ukraine and at the same time great responsibility for the Ukrainian people and the sporting community in Europe.

Yanukovych also thanked the FIBA Europe president for supporting Ukraine in the issue of staging EuroBasket 2015 and for a high level of cooperation with the International Basketball Federation.

Rafnsson, in turn, thanked Yanukovych for his support in holding the finals of EuroBasket 2015 in Ukraine and praised the level of FIBA's cooperation with the Basketball Federation of Ukraine.

Ukraine won the right to host the final tournament of the EuroBasket 2015 European Basketball Championship on December 18, 2011. Tournament matches will be held in Kyiv, Lviv, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Odesa and Dnipropetrovsk.
