Dams of Bortnychi aeration plant are in satisfactory state, says construction ministry

The technical state of the dams of sludge fields of Bortnychi aeration plant in Kyiv is satisfactory, and there is no threat of an accident, the press service of the Ministry of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities of Ukraine reported on Thursday, referring to the head of the ministry's water supply and sewage department, Oleh Zhuchenko.

According to him, the conclusion was made by the specialists of UkrNIIvodokanalproekt scientific-research institute after they studied the technical state of the dams.

To keep the dams of the sludge fields in a proper technical state, Kyiv City State Administration in February and March 2013 carried out a range of measures to fortify the dams.

To maintain Bortnychi aeration plant in the proper technical state, the program for economic and social development of Kyiv for 2013 foresaw UAH 19.1 million of assignments from the city budget.

Zhuchenko also said that in 2012 work on a project entitled "Reconstruction of purification sewage facilities and building a technical line to process and utilize sludge from Bortnychi aeration plant", will be finished in the H1, 2013. Then the project will be submitted for the approval to the Cabinet of Ministers.

The estimated cost of the project is UAH 5.6 billion. Kyivvodokanal municipal enterprise ordered the project.

As reported, on September 20, 2012 Head of Kyiv City State Administration Oleksandr Popov reported that Kyiv was in talks with European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the World Bank, and "other financial institutions that operate at 3% per annum, on raising a loan for the reconstruction of the Bortnychi aeration plant.

Ukrainian Premier Mykola Azarov has estimated the cost of the reconstruction of Bortnychi aeration plant in Kyiv in UAH 3.5 billion.

On February 27, deputy head of Kyiv city state administration Ruslan Kramarenko reported that UAH 19.1 million was envisaged in the program for Kyiv social and economic development for 2013 to reconstruct Bortnychi aeration plant.
