The Ukrainian government has supported a draft law on state support for families with children, which envisages an increase in monthly assistance to orphaned children with disabilities by UAH 894, to UAH 3,314, Ukrainian Social Policy Minister Natalia Korolevska has said.

She said at a briefing in Kyiv on Wednesday that a whole package of proposals on the social protection of the most vulnerable people had been supported at a government meeting.

She said that the government had decided to raise the minimum pension for disabled war veterans of the second and third groups and combatants, who turned 85. Thus, from May 1, 2013 the persons of these categories should have the pension of at least UAH 2,548.

In addition, the government increased one-time financial assistance ahead of the Victory Day on May 9, 2013 to war veterans and victims of Nazi persecution. Such an increase was on average 10%, Korolevska said.

"For example, it's planned to pay one-time assistance of UAH 2,145 to disabled war veterans of the first group, which is UAH 215 more than in 2012," she said.

Korolevska also spoke about the government's decision to strengthen the social protection of persons who were injured at work. Thus, monthly insurance payments to those injured at work will grow on average by UAH 180 from March 2013, to UAH 1,390.

The minister also spoke about the government's decision to simplify the procedure for granting subsidies to citizens. She said that now people can obtain information about their income in one place - the Pension Fund.

"Today's growth regarding the simplified receipt of subsidies is not the last one. Our goal is to switch to an automatic process of providing subsidies through the receipt electronically of information about the income of working people from the Pension Fund, without the participation of citizens," she said.
