Economic Ministry proposes govt approves market-based wages for state company directors

On November 6, the Cabinet will consider the proposals of the Economic Development and Trade Ministry on the approval of market-based wages for the directors of state-owned companies.

"This is a prerequisite for changing managers and eliminating corruption in state-owned enterprises," the Ministry of Economic Development reported on Facebook.

The ministry noted that state companies have enough funds to provide market wages for honest and professional managers. As an example, the ministry cited PJSC Ukrgazvydobuvannia, at which new board chairman Oleh Prokhorenko restored order in the procurement system, which allowed the company to save UAH 350 million in only four months.

"Professional and honest managers can more than pay market wages – it's time to make a principled decision," the ministry said.

A government source told Interfax-Ukraine that after tenders to select the heads of state enterprise Ukrspyrt and PJSC Centrenergo failed, a review of their terms should be carried out and market wages should be offered. Also, additional barriers on participating in tenders should be removed, in particular, the Ukrainian nationality and language skills requirements.
