The range of professional training available in Ukraine does not meet the requirements of the economy, according to the deputy chief of the division of organizational and methodological support for the provision of services to citizens at the department for the organization and provision of social services at the State Employment Center, Valentyna Plachynda.

"The main reason for unemployment among young people is the inability to find a job after graduation," she said during a roundtable meeting entitled "The Labor Market in Ukraine 2013: The Future of Young Professionals" in Kyiv on Thursday.

Plachynda said that on average 5.7% of graduates apply to the State Employment Service every year.

"This means that more than 92,000 graduates did not find jobs after graduation, among them 53,000 university graduates, 33,500 graduates of vocational schools and 6,300 graduates of comprehensive schools [the figures for 2012]," she said.

She said that the employment center currently receives many applications from employers for such jobs as welders, seamstresses, mechanics, repairmen, cooks, and tractor drivers. Many businesses, she said, need qualified staff.

In the greatest demand, Plachynda said, are the professions associated with the presence of high-level skills.

"Highly skilled programmers, lawyers, accountants, as well as managers of various levels, designers and engineers are in demand," she said.
