Ukraine defeats Slovakia, gets second victory in UEFA Nations League
Ukraine defeated Slovakia 1-0 in its second match of the group stage of the UEFA Nations League, which gives an additional opportunity to make it through to the Euro 2020 European Football Championship.
West Ham midfielder Andriy Yarmolenko scored the only goal from the penalty spot in the 80th minute.
Ukrainians played the match against Slovaks in Lviv in an empty stadium because of UEFA's punishment for a banned banner at a stadium during a Euro 2016 qualifier against Spain in Kyiv.
In its first Nations League match Ukraine defeated the Czech Republic 2-1 away.
After two rounds, Ukraine tops its group with six points collected in two matches. Slovakia and the Czech Republic did not score points, but they played only one game.
To get the right to secure a place in Euro 2020 through the Nations League, Ukraine should first take first place in Group 1 of League B so as to then participate in the playoffs in March 2020.
