UEFA imposes EUR 150,000 fine on RFU, suspended Euro 2016 disqualification on Russian national team
The UEFA disciplinary body has decided to impose a EUR 150,000 fine on the Russian Football Union (RFU) and a suspended disqualification on the Russian national team over the disturbances staged by Russian football fans following the Russia-England Euro 2016 match on June 11.
Following its meeting today in Paris, "the independent UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) decided to impose the following sanctions: a fine of EUR 150,000 and a suspended disqualification of the Russian national team from UEFA EURO 2016 for the crowd disturbances," UEFA said in a report circulated on Tuesday.
The disqualification may be applied if Russian football fans once again provoke crowd disturbances during any of Russian national team's remaining matches at UEFA Euro 2016.
This decision concerns only the incidents that occurred inside the stadium in Marseille, where Russian fans broke into sectors where England fans were sitting and engaged in a skirmish, UEFA said.
