Shakhtar fails to reach last 16 of Champions League

Shakhtar Donetsk has failed to win through to the playoffs of the 2013/2014 Champions League.

In the final, sixth round of the tournament's group stage, the Ukrainian club lost away to England's Manchester United 0-1. Midfielder Phil Jones scored the only goal in the 67th minute.

In another Group A match Germany's Bayer Leverkusen beat Spain's Real Sociedad 1-0 away.

Thus, Manchester United won the group with 14 points from six games, Bayer collected ten points, Shakhtar has eight points, and Real Sociedad earned only one point.

For finishing third in the group, the Ukrainian champions have earned a place in the UEFA Europa League 32-team stage next spring.
