UEFA welcomes CAS's decision to reject Metalist's request to suspend its disqualification from Europe
UEFA has noted with satisfaction that the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has dismissed FC Metalist Kharkiv's second request for provisional measures following the club's ban, reads a statement posted on UEFA's official Web site on Tuesday.
"UEFA notes with satisfaction that the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has today dismissed another request for provisional measures by FC Metalist Kharkiv. The Ukrainian club was attempting to obtain a stay of execution of the decision of the UEFA Appeals Body dated August 14, 2013, according to which the club was disqualified from UEFA competitions owing to its involvement in match-fixing. This follows an earlier ruling of CAS (issued on August 16, 2013) dismissing a previous request for a stay of execution," reads the statement.
UEFA also noted that Metalist had been replaced in the competition by PAOK, who are scheduled to play against FC Schalke 04 in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League play-off tie on August 21.
