FFU president sees no point in holding CIS championship
President of the Football Federation of Ukraine (FFU) Anatoliy Konkov has said he sees no point in holding the CIS football championship.
"I would be ashamed to say that we can invent some other championships to strengthen our potential. We have our own championship. The clubs that we delegated to various UEFA tournaments worthily represent themselves there. At present I don't see how we can change anything else there. Now we're moving in the direction that we have chosen," he said in an interview with Ukraine's Football television channel.
As reported, on December 21, Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller, one of the initiators of the idea of holding a unified CIS championship, said that the tournament could be held "in the very near future." He also said that the head of the organizing committee of the CIS football championship could be appointed by the end of 2012.
