Istanbul to host Mediterranean Steam Coal Markets 2011 conference on September 19-20

The international conference "Mediterranean Steam Coal Markets 2011" will be held in Istanbul on September 19-20.

The conference is dedicated to the current issues of supply and demand in the MED region, major freight-flows of steam coal and anthracite and development of sea-borne trade in the mentioned region.

Within several next years the Turkish market will become even more attractive for steam coal and anthracite suppliers, due to its newly constructed imported coal-fired power plants and increased capacities in Turkish steel and cement industries.

Not only Turkey, but also other Mediterranean countries, like Italy and Morocco, are likely to increase their coal import by about 5 Mt to 8 Mt in forthcoming years.

Therefore, coal transportation via Capesize vessels, Panamaxes and Handy vessels especially from Colombia, USA, South Africa, Canada and Australia are naturally expected to increase with above volumes.

Furthermore, an increase in steam coal and anthracite shipments by 3.000 tons to 10.000 tons vessels in Black / Sea and Azov Sea Ports are likely to occur from especially Ukraine and Russia to secure growing coal consumption of Turkish power, steel and cement sectors.

The event is specialized coal trading forum of the MED market.

Its major goal is to create mutually beneficial cooperation for producers & traders from the U.S., Colombia, South Africa, the CIS countries, Indonesia and Australia with consumers in this market.
