Protection of intellectual property: practice in pharmaceutical industry
The 5th Professional Conference "Protection of Intellectual Property: Practice in the Pharmaceutical Industry" will take place in Kyiv on December 17, 2009. Organizers: Conference House Company and the Expert Bureau on Intellectual Property. The law partner of the conference is Vasil Kisil & Partners. The theme of the conference focuses on the pharmaceutical industry in particular because this industry is a high-risk one in terms of violations of intellectual property rights. Such violations are sometimes not immediately obvious, and consumers can be sold something entirely different from what they expected. Moreover, and most importantly, counterfeit products carry a high risk of harming the lives and health of patients. In protecting intellectual property rights, the state therefore protects not only producers, but the consumers of their products. Among the topics up for discussion at the event are, firstly, the legal protection of drug trademarks, drug formulae and their method of manufacture. The speakers at the conference will share their experience in dealing with disputes in this area in the court system, via the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine, and the practice of protecting the rights of producers in tandem with law enforcement and customs officials.
