UKRPLASTIC introduces new technologies

A manufacturing line for manufacture of co-extruded laminates, that is, a flexible packaging material of a new generation with the unique performance characteristics, is launched into production operations at UKRPLASTIC company.

Due to its high level of safety and environmental protection, the coextruded laminates are indispensible for pharmaceutical companies that produce medicines and medical products. The Ukrainian food industry has also obtained a high quality ecologically safe packaging material allowing the fat-and-oil products, pasta and confectionery products to retain high sanitary and hygienic characteristics for the entire shelf life, and acquire new consumer qualities.

The innovative co-extrusion lamination technology is based on usage of a molten polymer layer as a binder instead of glue. This technique significantly reduces the content of free radicals in the finished material, as well as residual solvents, and also provides a high barrier properties and resistance to aggressive environments. Coextruded laminates reliably protect products from contamination, moisture and off-odors absorption, oxidation, exposure to sunlight, and provide for a long-term storage. The created material meets the most stringent international sanitary - hygiene requirements to packaging, which is very important for the Ukrainian consumers living in the contaminated areas in a sustainable man-induced impact.

Multinational companies Danone, Lactalis, Nestle, PepsiCo, Tchibo, Mondelez (Kraft Foods), which UKRPLASTIC has been supplying with flexible packaging material over 8 years, have already confirmed their interest in the new packaging material.

The project on introduction of the new technology is implemented in cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development within the frames of the investment program on improvement of energy efficiency and environmental standards, investment in new technologies and the restructure of the company’s balance. The total investment in the program is EUR 29.8 million.
