The potential of biogas market in Russia is more than $ 18 billion
The total market potential for biogas, as well as electricity and heat production based on biogas plants using waste from agricultural industry, amounts more than $ 18.4 billion in the Russian Federation. At the same time, biogas production could reach 14.7 billion cubic meters per year, which is the equivalent of 10 billion cubic meters of natural gas.
Such data is contained in analytical report of international consulting group of IBCentre, which is focused on renewable energy issues and is dedicated to the alternative fuel market of Russia.
In particular, the potential of the Russian biogas market in the segment of technological solutions and equipment amounts to $5 billion, in the segment of power generation - $ 3.8 billion, heat generation - $ 3.1 billion, and organic fertilizers production - $ 6.5 billion
The basic resource base for the development of the biogas industry in the Russian Federation of an amount of 153 million tonnes per year is now animal waste. Overall electricity generation capacity using biogas could exceed 4.1 GW, and in heat-generating plants - 4.4 GW.
As of October 22, 2012, the largest biogas complex in the Russian Federation is the Luchcky plant in Prokhorovka district near Belgorod region built by AltEnergo. The plant's capacity is 2.4 MW.
The investment attractiveness of the Russian biogas market will be discussed at the specialized international seminar that is to be held with the support of the State Duma of the Russian Federation and the Russian Energy Agency in Belgorod on November 22, 2012. The participants of the event will be the largest players in the European market of biogas as well as international experts in the field of renewable energy.
