"Kharkiv Stahl" maintained supplies of metal and construction materials in the region in 2020–2022

LLC Kharkiv Stahl maintained its operational activity and the status of one of the key suppliers of rolled metal products and construction materials in Kharkiv and the region in 2020–2022, despite the COVID-19 pandemic and the beginning of the full-scale war, according to the company’s materials.

The enterprise continued to operate as a multi-profile metal base, supplying steel products both wholesale and retail, as well as basic construction materials for construction and installation companies, industrial enterprises and private developers.

Kharkiv Stahl provides its clients with rebar, beams, channels, sheet metal, pipes, square bar, as well as stainless steel products, profiled sheeting, metal tiles, cement, crushed stone, sand, asbestos-cement sheets and expanded clay, with delivery across Kharkiv and the region.

“Our task in those years was both very simple and very difficult: not to disrupt construction works and client projects, even when logistics and metal prices were changing every week. We maintained warehouse stocks, expanded the line of used metal products and took on fast cutting and delivery so that the customer received the required volume on the required day,” the company’s press service quotes the owner and director of LLC Kharkiv Stahl, Norayr Avetysyan, as saying.

A separate line of work in 2020–2022 remained the production of metal items. Based on its metal warehouse, the company manufactured steel hinges of various diameters and pipeline components, including reducers, end caps, bends and tees made from certified rolled metal according to GOST standards, allowing clients to purchase both raw steel and ready-made components from a single supplier.

The service segment included metal cutting to size, sales of new and used rolled metal from one linear meter, as well as delivery by the company’s own transport with a payload capacity of up to 5 tons, with the possibility of payment at the site, according to the service descriptions on the website and in industry catalogues.

“When the massive shelling began in 2022 and part of our clients effectively halted their projects, we focused on those who continued to work: infrastructure, repair crews, industrial facilities. Under those conditions the most important thing was predictability: having metal in stock, transparent pricing and prompt shipment,” added Norayr Avetysyan, noting that during this period the company emphasized short-term contracts and rapid replenishment of inventory through different supply channels.

According to the company, in 2020–2022 demand shifted toward more “utilitarian” positions — rebar, beams, channels and used metal structures, which were widely used in reconstruction and repair works, while some large development projects were frozen.

“We see that even in the most difficult months of 2022 builders, public utilities and industry could not stop completely. This created a minimally guaranteed demand for basic metal products, and our task was to meet this demand without failures,” the owner said in a comment provided by the company’s press service.

The company believes that the experience gained under pandemic and wartime conditions created the foundation for further adaptation of the business to high price and logistics risks in the metal products market.

In the future, Kharkiv Stahl plans to expand the share of finished metal products and comprehensive supplies (“metal plus construction materials”), focusing on reconstruction projects and the industrial sector of the region, according to company materials.

In 2021, Kharkiv Stahl completed the construction of three warehouse facilities with a total area of 3,000 square meters.
