PRESS RELEASE: On May 15, 2012 a practical conference "Modernization of Housing and Utilities of Ukraine on the Basis of Mechanisms of Public-Private Partnership" takes place
The conference, under the patronage of the Regional Development, Construction and Housing and Utilities Ministry of Ukraine, held on May 15 in Sumy, will bring together the heads of regional councils and mayors of Ukrainian cities, representatives of central state agencies, businesses, housing, legal and consulting companies, banks and financial groups.
The demand for investment in the housing and utility sphere of Ukraine is estimated at UAH 1 trillion. It is obvious that the modernization of the industry using only state funds will take many years to come. In these conditions there is no alternative option for housing and utility development on the basis of industry commercialization. The implementation of such ambitious plans requires clear and stable rules of the game for businesses that can be achieved through the development of Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs).
Despite the fact that PPPs in Ukraine are a relatively new mechanism of cooperation between the state and business, they have long been successfully used in the world. Thanks to the constructive cooperation between the government and private sector, chances to break the deadlock in infrastructure projects are rising steadily.
The aim of the conference is to demonstrate the prospects of PPPs mechanisms in the housing and utilities segment of Ukraine and to discuss the conditions necessary for implementation of such projects, as well as to become familiar with already implemented projects. The conference is to become a platform for professional communication for all industry players, as well as an experience exchange and opportunity for dialogue between government and business in the industry.
The agenda includes speeches by Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn, Ukrainian Regional Development and Housing and Utilities Minister Anatoliy Blyzniuk, Chairman of Sumy Regional State Administration Yuriy Chmyr, Chairman of Sumy Regional Council Hennadiy Mykhailenko, and others.
