Most Ukrainians support Ukraine’s foreign policy – opinion poll
In Ukraine, 70% of citizens support the foreign policy of the state leadership, 17% do not, according to the results of a sociological survey conducted by the sociological service of the Razumkov Center from January 19 to 25 and presented at a press conference at the Interfax-Ukraine agency on Wednesday.
It is noted that such support is gradually decreasing: in August 2023, 74% of respondents supported the foreign policy of the Ukrainian government, and 14% did not support it.
The overwhelming majority of residents of all macro-regions support the foreign policy of the Ukrainian leadership (from 67% of residents of the west to 76.5% of residents of the south of the country).
Among those who trust Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, 82% support the foreign policy of the Ukrainian leadership, while among those who do not trust only 41%.
Respondents rated the effectiveness of international assistance to Ukrainian refugees on a five-point scale at an average of 3.9 points, financial assistance - 3.8 points, military assistance, political solidarity and support for Ukraine on international platforms - 3.7 points.
The effectiveness of facilitating the restoration of destroyed facilities in Ukraine (3.3 points), promoting the implementation of reforms in Ukraine (3.2 points), and the lowest is the effectiveness of sanctions against the aggressor country (3.0 points).
Compared to July 2023, the assessment of the effectiveness of political solidarity and support for Ukraine on international platforms increased slightly (from 3.5 to 3.7 points), assistance in the restoration of destroyed facilities in Ukraine (from 2.9 to 3.3 points), assistance in the implementation of reforms in Ukraine (from 2.9 to 3.2 points).
Assessing the negative impact of external events and processes on Ukraine, the blocking of macro-financial assistance from the EU and the process of European integration of Ukraine by Hungary as a whole, as well as the aggravation of internal political confrontation in the United States, which slows down military-financial support for Ukraine, were assessed at 4.3 points.
The negative impact of the failure of global and regional security structures to prevent the escalation of conflicts on the world stage, in particular, to stop the aggression of the Russian Federation, is estimated at 4.2 points, the negative impact of the deterioration of the political, socio-economic situation in Europe, increased “fatigue” from the war in Ukraine, polarization of the world community, deepening global confrontation between the democratic world and the camp of authoritarian states (in particular, strengthening the partnership of the Russian Federation, China, Iran, North Korea) - 4.1 points.
The impact of the escalation of the war in the Middle East (Israel's military operations against Hamas, the military operation of Western countries in Yemen) was rated at 3.9 points, the impact of the long-term US-China confrontation, which is acquiring signs of a systemic crisis and covers various regions of the world, the possibility of a conflict around Taiwan - at 3.8 points.
The study was conducted as part of the Join in! Community Engagement Program funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
The survey was conducted face-to-face among 2,000 adult respondents in government-controlled areas where there is no fighting. The structure of the sample population reproduces the demographic structure of the adult population of the territories where the survey was conducted as of the beginning of 2022 (by age, gender, type of settlement). The theoretical sampling error does not exceed 2.3%. Additional systematic sampling biases are possible, in particular due to the evacuation of citizens.
