Piatnytsky: Part of EU-Ukraine agreement on creation of FTA to be ready for signing in next few weeks

Kyiv, January 6 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Government Commissioner for Ukraine's European Integration Valeriy Piatnytsky has said he is confident that the association agreement between Ukraine and the EU in terms of creating a deep and comprehensive free trade area (FTA) will be technically ready for signing in the next few weeks.

"I don't want to forecast when this agreement will be signed. There are certain factors that are influencing this process one way or another. I can say that in any case that the agreement will be fully ready for signing in the next few weeks in terms of all of the necessary technical points, and the validation of certain elements of this agreement," he said at a press conference at the Interfax-Ukraine news agency on Friday.

Piatnytsky said that the determination of the date for signing of the agreement was a matter of political agreement.

"Making forecasts is a thankless job. What are we doing today for this agreement not to be just a piece of paper? We are now actually working on its implementation, because everyone understands what to do, how to do it, and what rules should be applied. Work is underway on drafting various amendments to legislation," he said.
