Ukraine to stabilize situation in industrial milk output by year's end, agriculture ministry says

Kyiv, November 3 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Ukraine by the end of this year will stabilize the situation in industrial milk output, the director of the department for animal products markets at the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, Andriy Hetia, said at a press conference at Interfax-Ukraine on Thursday.

"We think that the instruments we use, including financial support and various events, will help us stabilize the situation at farms by the end of the year," he said.

At the same time, he said that as of October 1 industrial milk production in the country totaled 1.7 million tonnes.

He also said that the ministry jointly with the Agrarian Academy of Sciences has developed a national project entitled "The Revival of Cattle Breeding," which foresees certain steps being taken to stabilize industrial milk production.

According to the text of the project that was sent to Interfax-Ukraine, in particular, Ukraine by 2015 is to increase milk production from 11.2 million tonnes to 15.4 million tonnes, cow numbers from 2.63 million to 2.72 million animals, with individual farms increases the figure from 590 animals to 790 animals.
