Ukrtelecom not to abandon cable radio, says CEO

Kyiv, August 10 (Interfax-Ukraine) - PJSC Ukrtelecom is not intending to abandon its cable radio system, Company Board Chairman Heorhiy Dzekon said at a press conference at Interfax-Ukraine on Wednesday.

"We are not going to abandon cable radio," he said.

According to Dzekon, Ukrtelecom plans to make this segment profitable. This will be done in two ways - a slight increase in tariffs and a transfer of the segment (or part of it) to outsourced services.

As reported, the conditions of Ukrtelecom's privatization did not contain any specific commitments of the buyer regarding maintaining of the cable radio network.

The National Radio Company before privatization proposed to remove the cable radio system from the operator's structure.

Special communications, rural and telegraph communications, and cable radio are the major loss-making areas of Ukrtelecom's business.
