Austrian-Ukrainian legal seminar to be held in Kyiv on June 16

Kyiv, June 9 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The legal aspects of doing business and investing will be discussed during the Austrian-Ukrainian Legal Day in Kyiv on June 16, Austrian Ambassador to Ukraine Wolf Dietrich Heim has said.

"I am very glad that next week, two years after the Austrian-Ukrainian Law Society was created in Austria... we will be able to have a very large-scale event, a seminar - the Austrian-Ukrainian Legal Day," he said at a press conference at the Interfax-Ukraine news agency on Thursday.

He said that the program of the event had already been drafted.

"Topical issues of law will be discussed in a very broad format at a high level," Heim said.

He noted that European investors were facing problems during their work on the Ukrainian market because of imperfect legislation and the judicial system in Ukraine.

"In order to improve competitiveness and achieve economic growth, the state should provide a solid foundation for the rule of law," Heim said.

Commercial Counselor at the Austrian Embassy in Ukraine Gregor Postl, in turn, said: "The legal standards in Ukraine are still far from meeting European standards."

The ambassador said that respective government institutions and ministries in Ukraine would be informed about the results of the seminar.
