Through his initiatives, Kyiv mayor wants to boost support from mostly poor, state-supported people, says Pylypyshyn
Kyiv, January 29 (Interfax-Ukraine) – According to the head of Shevchenko district council and Kyiv council deputy Viktor Pylypyshyn (Block of Lytvyn), the real aim of Kyiv Mayor Leonid Chernovetsky's budget initiatives is to increase the number of social beneficiaries voting for him in the next elections.
Pylypyshyn said at a press conference at Interfax-Ukraine on Wednesday that "Kyiv officials might achieve their goal, which is support from 1 million social security beneficiaries or poor people at the elections".
He noted the mayor's claims that he would bring $10 billion to Kyiv's budget for 2009.
"In reality, according to our analysis of all the indicators, the budget may be just $2 billion, meaning we are several years behind the schedule," the deputy said.
Pylypyshyn said that Chernovetsky's team got some 400,000 votes during the last mayoral campaign. The number of social beneficiaries was 500,000 people, now this number is 600,000. The mayor wants to increase it to 800,000 or 1 million due to the crisis.
Pylypyshyn suggestsed analyzing how much money was given to the "mayor's beloved grannies" and how much will be taken from the Kyiv residents' family budget.
He also said that as a head of one of the districts of the city, he doesn't know key budget indicators.
Political expert Kost Bondarenko stated that Kyiv "is now a mechanism for transforming the municipal sector into some sort of closed corporation.
