Fashion companies stress necessity to combat domination of pirated goods in Ukraine

Kyiv, March 11 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine remains among the top ten countries in terms of volumes of pirated goods, participants of a roundtable entitled "Pirated Goods in the Fashion Industry" hosted by Interfax-Ukraine on Friday have said.

"World companies lose about $200.6 billion per annum, which is 55% of general sales, because of pirated goods," Managing Partner at Maas Markets Ltd. Maurizio Aschero noted.

The participants of the roundtable said that, according to studies, 35% of goods marketed under famous brands in Ukraine are actually pirated.

In turn, Vice President of the International Chamber of Commerce-Ukraine Viktor Valeev noted that there is no specific statistics of the number of faked famous brands in Ukraine as of today, which is a hindrance in the fight against this problem.

"We have to conduct our own studies, and we will do so," he said. Valeev added that such studies would be held with the assistance of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

The "Pirated Goods in the Fashion Industry" roundtable was organized by the Association for Resisting Unfair Competition (ARUC), and the Ukrainian National Committee of the International Chamber of Commerce, with the participation of the Business Action to Stop Counterfeiting and Piracy (BASCAP).
