Candidate for Vasylkiv mayor claims vote being rigged in city

Kyiv, November 8 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The candidate for mayor of Vasylkiv in Kyiv region from the All-Ukrainian Party of People's Trust, Anatoliy Borovyk, has claimed that results of the local elections in the city were rigged.

"Some 2,857 voters supported me, the candidate for mayor of Vasylkiv, Kyiv region, from the All-Ukrainian Party of People's Trust. Some 1,176 fewer voters supported incumbent Mayor Ivaschenko, the candidate for city head from the Regions Party," Borovyk said at a press conference at Interfax-Ukraine on Friday.

According to him, results were completely different after the city election commission counted the votes.

"According to unofficial information that I have received, Ivaschenko got 58 votes more than I did," Borovyk said.

Such a significant divergence of the results from the repeat vote counting means there was "serious and large-scale falsification of the elections in favor of the Regions Party," Borovyk said.

According to Borovyk, he has appealed to the Prosecutor General's Office and the regional prosecutor's office, as well as the Security Service of Ukraine, and he hopes for relevant response from these agencies.

Analyzing the reasons of such heightened interest in Vasylkiv, Borovyk noted that first of all this is connected with the land issue, as there were many cases of abuse in this sphere.

"Obviously, the desire to remain in office, avoid criminal liability for what was done, encouraged the relevant officials to commit serious and unprecedented falsification of the elections in Vasylkiv," Borovyk said.
