Kyiv to host Kinomedia festival finals on November 19, winner goes to Cannes
Kyiv, September 29 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The final part of a noncommercial festival of short films about work of the media, entitled "Kinomedia," will be held in Kyiv on November 19, with the winner being awarded a trip to the Cannes Film Festival.
Executive Director of the Independent Association of Radio and Television Broadcasters Kateryna Miasnykova reported this during a press conference on September 27, 2010.
According to her, entries for the festival will be accepted until October 22. The screening of the films and the finals of the contest will be held in Kyiv on November 19. The screening of films from the retrospective program will take place on November 8-12.
According to Miasnykova, the jury of the contest will include well-known Ukrainian film critics, media experts, journalists and media managers.
She added that, as part of the festival, some famous culture and media representatives would deliver lectures on the role of the media in cinema.
Director of the Film.ua Productiоn Company Serhiy Antonov said that the festival will be held in the Film.ua studio in Kyiv.
"We will provide a hall for screenings and we have a modern cinema with 80 seats," he said.
"Such events will help young people to learn how to filter information in the media. Unfortunately, today the media do not just independently cover events, they also constitute a strong lever for manipulation of public opinion and human consciousness. So I would like young people to learn how to differentiate between manipulation and independent information," Antonov said.
Cultural Attaché at the French Cultural Center in Ukraine Emmanuelle Faucilhon added that France was "always eager to help to support the freedom of speech and discussions about it."
The Kinomedia Festival is organized by the Independent Association of Radio and Television Broadcasters and supported by the Film.ua Studio.
