Naftogaz was forced to cut Russian gas transit supplies by 21 m cubic meters per 24 hours – Naftogaz CEO

Kyiv, January 1 (Interfax-Ukraine/Interfax) – The amounts of Russian gas transit to Europe have been cut by 21 million cubic meters per 24 hours, which is connected with the need to use the said amount of gas to ensure the entire transit supply while there are no contracts signed, a Naftogaz Ukrainy top manager said.

"The amount needed for transportation [has been taken out] from the current supply. These are 21 million cubic meters per 24 hours," Naftogaz Ukrainy CEO Oleh Dubyna said at a press conference at Interfax-Ukraine on Thursday.

Earlier Gazprom spokesman Sergei Kupriyanov said Gazprom dispatching and production units stopped gas deliveries to Ukraine at 10.00 a.m. Moscow time on Thursday.

"As it was announced yesterday evening, we have no contract on gas deliveries to Ukraine. That is why there is no ground to deliver gas as well," Kupriyanov told journalists.

The latest figures are as following: "gas deliveries to Ukrainian consumers were reduced by 110 million cubic meters and export deliveries grew up to 326 million cubic meters per day," the spokesman said.

"The extraction of gas from underground gas storages was reduced. Our production units do not record this at the level of gas production," Kupriyanov said.

The 110 million cubic meter reduction in gas deliveries means that they were fully cut for Ukraine, at the same time they were increased by approximately 20 million cubic meters for exportation to other countries, the spokesman said.
