Poll: Over half of Ukrainians say they trust Yanukovych (Part 2)

Kyiv, April 26 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Over half of Ukraine's citizens say they trust President Viktor Yanukovych, according to the results of a survey presented by FOM-Ukraine General Director Oleksandr Bukhalov at a press conference at Interfax-Ukraine on Monday.

A total of 52.6% of respondents said they trusted the president, 29.7% do not trust him, and 17.7% were undecided.

According to the survey, 39.9% of Ukrainians believe that Yanukovych has become more popular over the last month, 41.9% think nothing has changed over this period, 6% said that the president's approval rating had declined, while 12.2% failed to answer.

A total of 1,000 respondents from 85 villages and towns were questioned during the survey, which was conducted on April 10-19, 2010. The poll's margin of error is 3.2%.

In the same survey, 40.7% of respondents said they would vote for Yanukovych if a new presidential election were to be held next Sunday, i.e. April 18, and if the incumbent president ran in it.

Yulia Tymoshenko would have received the votes of 13.5%, Sergiy Tigipko 10.8% and Arseniy Yatseniuk 5.4% of those questioned.

The others who ran in the last presidential election would have mustered less than 3% of votes in the hypothetical April 18 election had they run, according to the returns of the poll.

If there had also been parliamentary elections on April 18, four parties would have won seats in the legislature, 39.1% of respondents would have voted for Yanukovych's Party of Regions, 14.2% for the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc, 8.7% for Tigipko's Powerful Ukraine, and 6.6% for Yatseniuk's Front of Change.

All other parties would have got less than 3% of votes.
