CIS-EMO observers have no substantial claims to presidential runoff in Ukraine

Kyiv, February 7 (Interfax-Ukraine) – International observers of the CIS-EMO mission have not registered serious irregularities at polling stations during the presidential runoff held in Ukraine on February 7.

"At the moment we don't have information that any abnormal events that had been predicted by politicians occurred. There are certain irregularities registered by our observers and other international missions. As a whole we don’t any serious claims to the voting process," CIS-EMO mission head Alexei Kochetkov said at Interfax-Ukraine on Sunday.

However, he expressed alarm on the situation with alleged mine laying at polling stations in Luhansk region.

He also said that in southern regions irregularities regarding voter lists were seen.

"However, they are not of a systemic character," he said.

Former Slovak Vice Prime Minister Yan Charnogurski said that the election is held in line with Ukrainian law.

Ex Polish Prime Minister Andrzej Lepper said that procedures on preventing election falsifications are used in Ukraine at high level.

He added that high turnout would be seen at the presidential runoff.

European Parliament member (2004-2009) Sylwester Chruszcz said that the election process is quicker and calmer compared to the first round of the presidential election.
