Funds from monetary deposit, paid by 16 presidential candidates who failed to enter second round transferred to state budget, says CEC Deputy Chief

Kyiv, February 3 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Monetary deposits totaling UAH 2.5 million will be returned to presidential candidates Viktor Yanukovych and Yulia Tymoshenko after the second round of the presidential election, Deputy Chairman of the Central Election Commission Andriy Mahera has told Interfax-Ukraine.

"The monetary deposit will be returned to the candidates who were included on the paper ballot for [the second round of] voting, after the election process is ended," he said.

At the same time, the monetary deposit paid by the rest 16 presidential candidates who failed to enter the second round have been already transferred to the state budget. However, these funds can't be used for the organization of the election.

"The Finance Ministry, the Cabinet or somebody else can manage them, but in any case the Central Election Commission has no claim to these funds," Mahera said.

A total sum of the lost deposits paid by the 16 losing presidential candidates is UAH 40 million.
