Tigipko has good chance of becoming Kyiv mayor, say political experts
Kyiv, January 22 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Sergiy Tigipko, who won over 13% of the vote in the first round of the presidential election, has a good chance of becoming Kyiv's mayor, President of the Open Policy Analytical Center Ihor Zhdanov has said at a press conference at Interfax-Ukraine on Friday.
"This is a triumphal return of Tigipko to politics… He may well run for the post of Kyiv mayor… and he has a good chance of victory," he said.
According to the expert, Tigipko should secure the electorate, structure his party and direct all his forces to a snap parliamentary election.
Professor of Political Science and Director of the Political Analysis School of the National University of Kyiv Mohyla Academy Oleksiy Haran, in turn, said the victory of Tigipko was provided by "a protest vote" because the candidate positioned himself as the opposition to both the authorities and the opposition itself.
Political scientist and Director of the Sofia Center of Social Studies Andriy Yermolayev said: "Tigipko is still a successful banker."
"Tigipko and Yatseniuk received good results, mainly situational," said the political expert, and added these politicians would make a mistake if they tried to use the votes of their supporters merely to further their own ambitions.
