Academy of Pedagogical Sciences Poll: Yanukovych leads Tymoshenko 32%-20%; next 5 candidates combine for 25%

Kyiv, December 28 (Interfax-Ukraine) – According to a new poll presented at Interfax-Ukraine on Monday, Presidential candidates Viktor Yanukovych and Yulia Tymoshenko would receive the greatest number of votes in the first round of the January 17 presidential election, with 32.2% and 20.2% of active voters respectively ready to vote for them.

The results of a survey carried out by the Institute of Social and Political Psychology of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine on December 18-24 were presented at a press conference at Interfax-Ukraine on Monday. A total of 1,997 respondents participated in the survey. The poll's stated margin of error is 2.2%.

According to the poll, Sergiy Tigipko would win 8.2% of the vote, Arseniy Yatseniuk 5.8%, Volodymyr Lytvyn and Viktor Yuschenko 4.1% each, and Petro Symonenko 3.0% (these five candidates' combined support is 25%).

Some 6.2% of those polled are ready to vote for other candidates, 11.3% were undecided, and 4.7% are planning to vote against all presidential candidates.
