Opposition backs president's demand to dismiss interior minister after his demarche

Kyiv, December 10 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainian Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko should resign following his walking out of a council on fighting corruption chaired by Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko, Regions Party MP Valeriy Bondyk has said.

"In the great scheme of things, Yuriy Vitaliyovych [Lutsenko] should understand that perhaps it's already beyong the pale to create scandals and discredit a non-authoritative government, and perhaps he should resign," he said at a press conference at the Interfax-Ukraine news agency on Thursday.

Bondyk also said Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko's letter to Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko demanding that she submit a motion on Lutsenko's dismissal as interior minister was appropriate.

"The reaction of the president as the head of state and commander-in-chief is quite logical," he said.
