Kyivenergo asking government, energy and utilities commission to find funds to buy fuel oil for capital

Kyiv, October 31 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Public joint-stock company Kyivenergo has asked the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the National Commission for Energy and Housing and Utilities Services Regulation (NCER) to find funds to buy fuel oil for the capital, Kyivenergo Director General Oleksandr Fomenko said at a press conference at Interfax-Ukraine on Thursday.

"The gas limit allocated by Kyiv City Administration for Kyivenergo for the heating season amounts to 1.304 billion cubic meters. According to the company’s calculations, if all gas saving measures are realized and temperature of water in pipelines is retained within the requirements, the required volume of gas is at least 1.788 billion cubic meters… We asked the Cabinet of Ministers to find sources of financing the purchase of alternative fuel – fuel oil," he said.

Depending on the weather conditions, Kyivenergo could require from 400,000 to 600,000 tonnes of fuel oil (with the gas limits not changed) for production of heat.

In addition, the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry obliged the company to increase the fuel oil reserve to the 20-day limit from current 53,000 tonnes to 107,100 tonnes. Kyivenergo asked the NCER to include the funds to buy the lacking volume of fuel oil into the company's tariff on electricity generation.

The price of fuel oil is not fixed. Today varies within UAH 8,000-10,000 per tonne.
