Many to be surprised by my result at forthcoming elections – presidential candidate Konovaliuk

Kyiv, March 31 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainian politician and presidential candidate Valeriy Konovaliuk has said he is sure that forthcoming president's elections will be fair, and this will help him to win.

"I'm participating in these elections just because the administrative resource, which has always influenced the elections, in Donetsk region as well, will amount to nothing - there will be no place for forgeries and violations. And I'm sure that these will be the fairest elections in the last 15-18 years," he said at a press conference hosted by Interfax-Ukraine on Monday during the presentation of his election program "Nova Ukraina" (New Ukraine).

According to him, "monopoly of the Regions Party on the south-east has ended."

He said that today not just new people, but a new ideology are in demand, which will unite east and west, [and] we have a possibility to do that," the candidate said.

"I've started to form a new public-political movement entitled 'Nova Ukraina.' None of the politicians among those you today see at Verkhovna Rada will become its member, this will be a new generation of young and talented people – Ukrainians, who could and want to breathe new life into state politics," he said.

Asked how his election campaign is financed, the candidate said: "I'm the only independent candidate, the rest of the candidates are or oligarchs or are supported by oligarchs."

Konovaliuk said that the money for his campaign would come from voter donations.

Konovaliuk also said that he was one of the authors of the pre-election campaign of Viktor Yanukovych at the presidential elections 2009.

"This program was upheld by 12.5 million people, but 95% of this program hasn't been fulfilled. My personal responsibility is that if I had run for the president in 2009, Yanukovych would never have been elected as a president, and led the country to tragedy," the potential presidential candidate said.

"I'm sure that my personal result at these lections will surprise a lot of people," he said.
