Ukrainian trade chains switch to short-term development planning in conditions of crisis
Kyiv, December 2 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainian trade chains during the economic crisis are switching to short-term development planning, market players said at a press conference at Interfax-Ukraine on Monday.
"There is the issue of a switch to short-term planning. Everything that we planned this year will be fulfilled. We're monitoring the situation," said the board chairman of Palmira Group, Vladyslav Nechai.
He said Palmira is trimming its plans for the purchase of goods and revising the range of goods.
"Dismissals of people and cutting in trade space will come in Q1 2009," he said, adding that employees from the central office of the company and the chain's staff will be dismissed.
The president of the Ukrainian Trade Association and the head of the supervisory council of CJSC Furshet, Ihor Balenko, said that its company has transferred to a monthly budget.
"Our company decided that we'll draw up budget every month," he said.
Balenko voiced hope that the company's sales before the New Year holidays will remain at the level of last year.
Director of the Mayak trade house, Serhiy Samovonik, said that a way out of the situation could be in the diversification of activities.
"I see the company's way in the diversification. We foresaw the situation a year ago. We'll be oriented to the hryvnia. As for imported household appliances, our task is to retain sales at least at minimum volumes," he said.
The head of the supervisory council of CJSC Nova Linia, Oleh Shandara, said that its company trimmed the development plan, taking into account forecasts for 2009.
"Rgarding the staff - we have started dismissals... This is linked with a certain optimization of each Nova Linia trade center," he said.
