Poroshenko proposes round table to Crimean MPs to find way out of current situation
Kyiv, March 1 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine's MP Petro Poroshenko (out of faction) has proposed Crimean parliamentarians hold a joint round table on the settlement of the situation in Crimea.
"Yesterday I managed to meet with the leaders of the Crimean parliament, MPs, the head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people. We managed to establish dialogue. I proposed the urgent conducting of a panel discussion. Ukraine itself must guarantee the security of the Crimean people, namely Ukrainian authorities should ensure the security of the inhabitants of Crimea," he said at a press conference at Interfax-Ukraine in Kyiv on Saturday.
According to Poroshenko, the draft law on a local referendum, the participation of Crimean deputies in the constitutional assembly, in the development of the Crimean budget, and the draft law on the status of Sevastopol city could be also jointly discussed at the round table.
"All these issues should be the subject of a round table to de-escalate the conflict," he said.
At the same time, Poroshenko added he has not received the final consent from Crimean parliamentarians to hold a round table.
