At most UAH 29 billion required to increase minimum wage, says accounting chamber

Kyiv, July 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainian Accounting Chamber Head Valentyn Symonenko has said that UAH 29 billion should be allocated from the state budget to increase the minimum wage in Ukraine.

He was speaking at a press conference at the Interfax-Ukraine news agency in Kyiv on Thursday.

"The figures called by the Regions Party are UAH 15.6 billion, and by the government UAH 46.6 billion. I state absolutely officially that both of them are wrong. It is [at least] UAH 28.4 billion and at most UAH 29 billion," he said, adding that "there are no real funds in the budget for this."

Symonenko said that the social rights of pensioners and public sector workers were being violated in Ukraine, because the "living wage is currently 20% higher than the minimum wage."
