Experts expect elections of Kyiv mayor in December 2013, city council in fall of 2015

Kyiv, July 12 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Experts predict that the elections of the mayor of Kyiv and that of members of parliament in troubled constituencies will take place in December 2013, while the elections of the city council will be held in 2015.

"Given the pressure from the West, we can predict that the elections in Kyiv will be appointed after all... A tentative date for the elections in Kyiv may be December 15," a campaign manager at Berta Communications, Sehiy Nosenko, said at a press conference at Interfax-Ukraine in Kyiv on Friday.

Nosenko also suggested that the election of MPs in the seven troubled constituencies will be held on December 22. "As for the repeat election in the troubled districts, it is highly probable that they will be scheduled for December 22," he said.

Director of Berta Communications Taras Berezovets also believes that the election of Kyiv mayor will be held before the end of the year. He stressed that the elections to the city council are a matter of debate.

"The Party of Regions is fully satisfied with the current composition of Kyiv City Council. They (the Party of Regions) understand that they are unlikely to get the majority in Kyiv City Council, no matter which electoral system will be used for the elections," Berezovets said.

"The authorities are interested in holding only the elections of Kyiv mayor, whereas the elections of Kyiv City Council should be frozen for as long as possible," he summed up.

He suggested that they may take place in October 2015.
