Spectre of Rada dissolution haunting parliament, say experts
Kyiv, April 5 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Political analysts say a new phase of the parliamentary crisis has commenced, the solution to which could entail the dissolution of the parliament and holding a nationwide referendum.
"The last word has not been said. But a gun has appeared on the wall and the only question is when it will be used. The phantom of the referendum and the specter of parliament's dissolution are haunting the parliament building," director of the Penta Center for Political Studies Volodymyr Fesenko said at a press conference at Interfax-Ukraine on Friday.
The political analyst described the current events, which started from holding a meeting of the majority in Bankova Street, as a "tactical war."
However, he sees at least two scenarios for the authorities – tactical, i.e. the "coercion" of the opposition to stop blocking, and a crisis one, i.e. the implementation of the scenario for holding a referendum and the dissolution of the parliament.
Director of the Institute for Global Strategies Vadym Karasiov, in turn, believes that the idea of such a referendum exists as "the desire of some people," but the authorities have no clear idea of the parliamentary future.
"In the current circumstances, the idea of a referendum arises not as the plan to strengthen the victory but a forced and sometimes reluctantly used instrument to overcome the political crisis," he said.
