Opposition's campaign 'Rise Ukraine!' won't bring serious results, says experts

Kyiv, March 15 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The opposition's campaign "Rise Ukraine!" will not attract many participants and will not bring serious results, political experts have said.

"The key problem of the opposition is cognitive dissonance. They announced a rebellion. Instead, they hold meetings with voters and call several rallies. This difference will become obvious very soon – they promised one thing and they did another thing," Head of the Penta Center for Applied Political Studies Volodymyr Fesenko told a Friday press conference hosted by Interfax-Ukraine.

According to him, disappointment with oppositional leaders and parties and criticism directed against them will rise.

The expert added that the key mistake of the opposition is the date in May selected for the campaign, as well as the fact that the opposition has not outlined clear goals of its campaign.

Fesenko also said that the opposition will not manage to retain interest to the event for two months.

"It won't bring any serious results. The opposition will be lucky if it gathers several dozens of thousands of people [in Kyiv in May]," he said.

In turn, Director of the Institute for Global Strategies Vadym Karasiov said that the name of the campaign was unsuccessful.

"The name is wrong, the idea is wrong, the strategy is wrong," he said.

"Today the opposition wants people to protect the opposition. People won't come to protect the opposition. They will come to support the opposition only when they realize that they have to protect themselves," Karasiov said.

Director of the Kyiv Political Research and Conflictology Mykhailo Pohrebynsky also criticized the fact that the opposition has announced its campaign in advance.
