NGO asks president to appoint person responsible for resolving problems of investors defrauded by developers
Kyiv, May 30 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainian NGO Association of Assistance to Victim Investors has asked President Viktor Yanukovych to publicly name the person responsible for resolving the problems of investors defrauded by unscrupulous developers.
"We're demanding that you personally, Viktor Fedorovych [Yanukovych], appoint a concrete person, anyone, in public, please, who would be responsible for resolving this problem. We want to understand with whom exactly we can work online to resolve these issues," President of the Association of Assistance to Victim Investors Oleksiy Honcharuk said at a press conference at the Interfax-Ukraine news agency on Wednesday.
He added that for example, First Deputy Head of Ukraine’s Presidential Administration Iryna Akimova could be such a person.
Honcharuk said that the state had currently regulated relations between developers and investors in such a way that the latter cannot protect their rights.
Among possible solutions to the issues of defrauded investors, the leader of the initiative group of investors in the apartment building at 4a Simyi Sosninykh Street in Kyiv, Ihor Bondar, called the adoption of laws helping deprive developers of the objects whose construction is not conducted for a certain time, so as to be able to complete them.
"We need to review the situation on the market: if the object is not commissioned, then the state or local government agencies have the right to take ownership of these objects… and finish them," Bondar said.
Honcharuk also noted that Prime Minister Mykola Azarov's instruction on the creation of an interdepartmental committee to address the problems of defrauded investors had not been fulfilled.
"Today we are demanding that the Ukrainian president find out why the instruction issued by Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov was not properly fulfilled," he added.
