Political experts hope Shamshur becomes foreign minister

Kyiv, March 20 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainian political experts have expressed hope that the government can build enough consensus to appoint Oleh Shamshur foreign minister of Ukraine.

"The officials consolidated during their visit to Brussels. I hope that this mutual understanding will last in Ukraine," the president of Open Policy Analytical Center, Ihor Zhdanov, said on Friday during a press conference at Interfax-Ukraine.

According to him, the fact that the officials found agreement in Brussels "gives grounds to hope for Shamshur's appointment as the next foreign minister" and for further reshuffles.

"We'll hope that on March 23 our leaders will be able to find compromise," said Professor of Political Studies and Director of the School of Political Analysis Oleksiy Haran. He said that Shamsur's candidacy was the best.

However, Haran said that "Shamshur's appointment might not happen because of political rows."

As reported, Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko and Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko both participated in the summit of the European People's Party in Brussels.

And on March 23, the president and the prime minister of Ukraine will both be present at a donor conference on the modernization of Ukraine's gas transport system, which is to be held in Brussels.
