Half of Ukrainians have negative attitude towards introduction of 12-year education in schools – poll

Some 49.5% of Ukrainians have a negative attitude towards the introduction of 12-year education in general secondary education institutions, according to the results of a study by the Institute of Social and Political Psychology of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine and the Association of Political Psychologists of Ukraine.

According to the outcomes of the study, which were presented at the Interfax-Ukraine press center on Tuesday, 74.2% of respondents have a positive attitude towards the profiling of senior school, which provides for the separation of students after the ninth grade for in-depth study of individual subjects or for obtaining a first profession (along with obtaining a full general secondary education), and 4.2% - negative.

At the same time, when asked how respondents felt about the introduction of a 12-year term of study in general secondary education institutions, 27.5% responded positively, while 49.5% responded negatively.

The study, which was conducted from October 14 to October 23, 2024, involved 1,513 respondents from a sample representing the adult population of Ukraine aged 18 years and older in the territory controlled by the Ukrainian government. The sampling error is 3.2%. The representation of teachers in the electoral population was increased according to the principle of convex sampling.
