Blinken promises in Kyiv that USA would confiscate Russian frozen assets
The U.S. administration intends to use the right received from Congress to confiscate frozen assets of the Russian Federation, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Tuesday.
"Our Congress has given us the power to seize Russian assets in the United States. We intend to use it," he said while speaking to students at the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute on Tuesday. The speech was broadcast by the Department of State.
Blinken did not provide details about these plans.
At the same time, the U.S. Secretary of State recalled that Washington is working on this issue with its G7 partners. He emphasized that the confiscated funds could be spent on various assistance to Ukraine.
In April, the U.S. Congress passed a law that gives the U.S. administration the right to confiscate Russian assets frozen on American territory.
