Von der Leyen: Framework for negotiations on Ukraine's accession to EU not to be ready before European elections
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen says that the framework for negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union will not be ready before the European elections, which will be held from June 6 to June 9.
She said this at a press conference in Brussels on Wednesday.
The President of the European Commission said that excellent progress with regard to the screening process is being made. She also added that a negotiating framework is being worked out. According to her, they won't be ready before the European elections, but after them as the development of different negotiating positions is ongoing and it will take time. According to her forecasts, they will be ready in early summer.
Earlier, it was expected that the negotiating framework would be approved at the Council meeting in March.
