Ukraine asks intl intermediaries to provide humanitarian assistance to Ukrainian soldiers captured in Avdiyivka – Tarnavsky

When Ukrainian troops left Avdiivka, under pressure from superior enemy forces, a number of Ukrainian military personnel were captured, commander of the Tavriya operational-strategic group of troops, Oleksandr Tarnavsky, has said.

“The withdrawal of personnel from Avdiyivka took place in accordance with a plan developed taking into account various scenarios and possible changes in the operational situation. And yet, at the final stage of the operation, under pressure from superior enemy forces, a number of Ukrainian military personnel were captured,” he wrote in Telegram channel on Saturday.

Tarnavsky said, “the relevant Ukrainian institutions will appeal to international humanitarian organizations and intermediary countries to ensure humane treatment of prisoners of war by the enemy, in accordance with the norms of International Humanitarian Law, and to ensure that our soldiers return to their homeland.”

“We will fight for the liberation of all our brothers-in-arms,” he said.
