German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a bilateral security agreement in Berlin on Friday, February 16.
“As long as it takes. Volodymyr Zelenskyy and I signed an agreement today on our long-term security commitments. A historic step. Germany will continue to support Ukraine in the fight against the Russian aggressive war,” Scholz wrote on the social network.
According to French media, it is planned that French President Emmanuel Macaron and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will sign a bilateral security agreement this week.
Earlier in January, a bilateral Agreement on security cooperation between Ukraine and the United Kingdom was signed within the framework of the G7 Joint Declaration adopted at the previous NATO summit in Vilnius. It covers three main areas: providing "comprehensive assistance" to Ukraine, "preventing and actively deterring" any form of escalation of hostilities, as well as providing support to Kyiv for "future integration into Euro-Atlantic institutions."
