Hungary asks to return to its minorities rights they had before 2015 - Szijjarto after talks in Uzhgorod

Hungary wants to return to its minority all the rights they had before 2015, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said.

"But we have a request, maybe this is too much, and you will think that I am impolite, but we ask that the Hungarian minority be given back all the rights they had had before 2015. I want to emphasize that Hungary is not asking for anything more: we are not asking for more than what it was before 2015. That is, the request is to return these rights," Szijjarto said at a press conference with his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba and Head of the President’s Office Andriy Yermak in Uzhgorod on Monday.

Separately, the Foreign Minister stressed that Hungary supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.

"There has been a war in Ukraine, our neighbor, for almost two years. Hungary's point of view during these two years has always been unambiguous: we support the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine. We condemn the war, and we want peace to come to our neighborhood as soon as possible," Szijjarto said.

According to him, one needs to talk more about the need for peace, and it is necessary to increase efforts so that people in Ukraine can live in peace.

"Hungary is ready to make efforts because we know that people's lives can only be saved during peace," Szijjarto added.

He recalled that Hungary had accepted more than a million refugees from Ukraine and was able to help half a million families with various humanitarian aid. The minister also pointed out that Hungary supports the restoration of schools and hospitals.

As reported, on January 29, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, Head of the President’s Office Andriy Yermak and Hungarian Minister of Foreign Economy and Foreign Affairs Peter Szijjarto held talks in Uzhgorod.
