Zaluzhny's assistant killed by grenade explosion near Kyiv – police
A serviceman has been killed in a residential complex in the village of Chaiky, Kyiv region, as a result of careless handling of ammunition, the press service of the National Police of Ukraine reports.
"According to preliminary information, a 39-year-old serviceman was killed as a result of a grenade explosion. His 13-year-old son is seriously injured. The guy is under the supervision of doctors," the message posted on Facebook says.
The police are working at the scene. Criminal proceedings have been initiated on the fact of the death of a person and illegal handling of ammunition.
As law enforcement sources told Interfax-Ukraine, the deceased serviceman worked as an assistant to Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhny.
It is also noted that during the search of the apartment, the police found another five grenades.
